Why replace an asbestos-cement roof
Asbestos-cement sheets are decades old and, over time, become porous, brittle and covered in moss and lichen. Besides the asbestos risk, these roofs are uninsulated, leak often and cost more to maintain each year.
Replacing the roof is the chance to solve safety, thermal comfort and watertightness at once.
Sandwich panel vs. asbestos-cement
- Built-in thermal and acoustic insulation — cooler in summer, warmer in winter
- Better watertightness, fewer leak points
- Much lighter, relieving the existing structure
- Fast installation, shorter works
- Long life and low maintenance
- No asbestos: a safer, more valuable building
How the replacement works
- 01Site visit, structure assessment and roof measurement.
- 02Detailed quote covering removal, waste transport and new roof.
- 03Safe removal of the asbestos-cement and check of the supporting structure.
- 04Reinforcement or repair of the structure when needed.
- 05Installation of sandwich panels, gutters, flashing and trims.
- 06Clean-up and handover.
What about the supporting structure?
Once the sheets are off, we assess the purlins and supporting structure. When necessary AV Metal reinforces or replaces steel elements, using our steel-structure know-how to deliver a new roof on a solid base.
Frequently asked questions
Can sandwich panels go over the asbestos-cement without removing it?
Over-roofing is possible in some cases but depends on the condition of the sheets and structure and comes with constraints. After the site visit we advise on the right solution — removal is the definitive option.
Are sandwich panels suitable for farm buildings?
Yes. Sandwich panels are widely used on industrial buildings, warehouses, barns and farm facilities thanks to their insulation and durability.
Do I need to stop operations during the works?
We plan the work to minimise downtime, working zone by zone whenever possible.
Do you also make gutters and flashing?
Yes, we fabricate and install custom gutters, flashing and trims.
